And… Out

“It is winter proper; the cold weather, such as it is, has come to stay.
I bloom indoors like a forced forsythia; I come in to come out.”

Winter proper indeed. School is already cancelled for tomorrow, as we anticipate obnioxiously cold weather. So, even more hunkering down for us.
But this blog is inspired by Ms. Dillard’s “come in to come out.” (Perfect transition, no?) That’s right, I’m coming out. Out of two closets, actually.
No, I’m not pregnant with number five. Yes, I’m still heterosexual. But this is even more scandalous: I’m knitting and writing.
You are not impressed. I know. But for me, this is a big confession. Knitting and crocheting even, like a granny in a rocking chair (or in my Nani’s case, a great-granny in a pool on a floatie), and obsessively so–did you miss that in my last post? (a bonnet I crocheted for Shortcake. The poor girl is doomed–she’s the only one who can’t verbally refuse a hat made by mommy! …yeah, those are tears in her eyes.)
And writing. Yeah, I’m always writing, but this writing seems to have a life of its own. It sprung up out of a personal photography project exploring motherhood and creativity, and just won’t stop, I think, until I get it all down. And not, maybe, until it is published. And, maybe, not even until I am booked solid with international book signings and gallery shows and Oprah appearances and such.
Now if these kids would just give me a moment to start…
