The Life of a Two-Week-Old

November 29, 2007
Sleep.

Eat.

Poop.
(…which she did–all over the blankets immediately after I removed her diaper after that shot.)
Snuggle.
Stare (every now & then).
Sleep some more.
that pretty much covers it.

SHE’s Here!

November 18, 2007
And she’s a SHE! It’s a girl!!!!

Forgive my delinquency in posting, I’ve been a little busy. I’ll return with more photos and details soon, but for now, I’ve been away from my little bundle for like, 20 minutes, and that’s the longest ever. I can’t actually stand it.

We are so completely, madly, head-over-heels in love with this little girl. All of us. It’s crazy!

She was born Wednesday morning (11-14) at 3:46 am. I had woken up at 2:20 with what I thought were bad gas pains. Every 3 minutes… It took me about 10 minutes to slap myself in the face and realize this was it! I suppose I’ll get into that later, but now it’s been, like, 23 minutes!!! I miss her!!!

In the hospital (look at that hair!):

Just arriving home (woo-hoo!):
Snuggling with daddy (and the bili-blanket, boo-hoo, see her glowing? More of that later, now it’s been, like, 25 minutes!!!!):

Due

November 13, 2007

Last week, I paid our local library $18.20 in overdue fines. I had returned some books after their DUE DATES.

Sunday we rented Ratatouille. I had to pay $4.21 in overdue fines, because I had returned some DVDs after their DUE DATES.

In three hours, I am going to start charging this baby overdue fines. I think $20 a day is more than fair, and now it is in writing.

Today is my DUE DATE. And I am still pregnant.

Ridiculous, really, how we pregnant people (and those surrounding us) get so hung up on due dates. The day is actually considered the EDD: Estimated Date of Delivery. Estimated, meaning the baby might be born somewhere around that day. There is even a two week cushion on each side of the EDD that is considered full term. But in my mind, when you are DUE at a specific time, you are to show up on or before then. Or suffer the consequences. In this case, $20 a day.

Not that I ever follow that rule. But it’s still a rule.

BDE was prompt–one week early. Dimples was prompt– 1 1/2 weeks early. Mowgli was close–17 minutes overdue. Thao, why can’t you be more like your sister and brothers? (I just received a hearty kick in the ribs.)
